Social Rehabilitation

Healing Lives, Restoring Dignity

At the heart of every broken story is a human being longing for dignity, connection, and a second chance. For many vulnerable people—orphans, street children, victims of abuse, and those displaced by crises—life can become a daily struggle for identity, inclusion, and survival.

That’s why Social Rehabilitation is a pillar of our mission at the Jason & Thu Foundation (JTSF). We believe in not only meeting immediate needs but also guiding people back to wholeness—emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

What Is Social Rehabilitation?

Social rehabilitation is the process of helping individuals who have been marginalized, traumatized, or displaced to reintegrate into society with confidence, purpose, and dignity. It involves rebuilding trust, restoring mental well-being, and re-establishing social bonds.

At JTSF, we provide tailored support for:

  • Orphans and abandoned children
  • Street-connected youth
  • Victims of gender-based violence (GBV)
  • Trauma survivors
  • Formerly incarcerated individuals
  • People living with HIV/AIDS and other stigmatized conditions

Our Approach

We use a holistic model that touches every part of a person’s life. Our social rehabilitation work includes:

Shelter & Safety: Offering temporary safe homes for abused or abandoned children and women escaping violence.
Trauma Counseling: Providing access to mental health support, psychosocial care, and group therapy sessions.
Life Skills Training: Teaching communication, anger management, hygiene, and personal development to foster confidence and independence.
Family Tracing & Reunification: Reuniting separated children with relatives when possible and safe, and providing ongoing family support.
Community Reintegration: Helping individuals re-enter their communities with dignity through mentorship, education, and spiritual guidance.

Real Lives, Real Change

One powerful story is that of Sam, a 12-year-old who had lived on the streets of Kampala after losing both parents. JTSF welcomed Sam into our transitional home, connected him with a counselor, enrolled him in school, and worked with local leaders to safely reintegrate him into extended family. Today, Sam is thriving and dreams of becoming a social worker to help others like him.

Another case is Grace, a young woman who survived early child marriage and domestic abuse. Through our rehabilitation program, she received shelter, therapy, vocational training, and today runs her own small tailoring business.

Why It Matters

Without rehabilitation, many vulnerable people remain trapped in cycles of trauma, stigma, and social rejection. Our program gives them a second chance—a chance to belong, to heal, and to build a better future.

“Every person deserves more than survival—they deserve to live with joy, hope, and purpose.”
